April Herbalism Workshop & Foraging Farm Tour
Join us on April 1st at Eridanus Brewing in Downtown Russell for a Foraging Farm Tour of Mountain Girl Provisions Farm in Greenup, KY.
(WE WILL BE LEAVING ERIDANUS BREWING NO LATER THAN 9:45 am. --)
As part of our monthly herbalism series, we will focus on herbs and how they can help us in our daily life. Join us as Kristi Ruggles takes us around her farm and high tunnel showing us her native plants, flowers, and organic herbs.
For our hands-on projects, we will forage for dead nettle and violets. As a group, we will learn to make violet syrup and each person will receive a bottle to take home. Listed below you will find some of the ailments that historically may be helped by violets.
Some people use sweet violet for respiratory tract conditions, particularly dry or sore throat, stuffy nose, coughs, hoarseness, and bronchitis. Other uses include treating pain in the minor joints, fever, skin diseases, headache, trouble sleeping (insomnia), and tuberculosis.
*Violets have long been used for coughs in Native American, European, and Chinese medicine. One double-blind randomized clinical trial with children aged 2 to 12 years found that violet syrup could help the coughs of children with intermittent asthma.
As always Dragonfly Outdoor Cafe will be creating a yummy meal to enjoy. Since we are off-site for this workshop, our meal will be brunch. So you may want to eat a small meal before you arrive.
